She wrote her first book, I Feel Fat, based off her personal experience with eating disorders in 1993.
She's also a professional translator and interpreter.
She was born in Madrid, Spain to a family of writers. She was raised by her grandma. She has two kids.
She and Cheryl Strayed are both novelists who have written books on personal experiences.
