ABOUT LOUIS SIMPSON
Poet and 1964 Pulitzer Prize recipient whose best- known works include At the End of the Open Road and Struggling Times. After publishing The Owner of the House: New Collected Poems, 1940–2001, he was a finalist for the Griffin Poetry Prize.
He studied at Columbia University and at the University of Paris. He published his debut poetry collection, The Arrivistes, in 1949.
He was a member of the 101st Airborne Division during World War II.
He was the son of Jamaican lawyer Aston Simpson and his Russian-born wife Rosalind Marantz.
He and Claude McKay were both poets of Jamaican heritage.
