Louis Zukofsky
ABOUT LOUIS ZUKOFSKY
American Objectivist poet best known for a poetry collection entitled "A." His other works include Barely & Widely, The Gas Age, and It Was.
He was born into a Lithuanian Jewish family on the Lower East Side of New York and grew up speaking Yiddish.
He attended Columbia University, from which he graduated with a master's degree. He never received his bachelor's degree because he failed to complete a physical education requirement.
He married Celia Thaew in 1939, and his son Paul was born in 1943. Paul Zukofsky grew up to be a violinist and musical conductor.
He greatly admired the work of Ezra Pound . Pound appreciated Zukofsky's work, as well, and published one of the younger poet's early poems in the literary journal Exile.
