American author who wrote the popular story Harriet the Spy in 1964 and its sequels, The Long Secret, Sport, and Nobody's Family is Going to Change.

She was involved in politics at Bard College and graduated from Barnard College in 1951.

She has won many awards for her writing including the Sequoyah Book Award in 1967.

She was raised by her wealthy father after her parents divorced when she was an infant.

Her book Harriet the Spy inspired the film of the same name starring Michelle Trachtenberg .
