Lowell Yerex
ABOUT LOWELL YEREX
Aviation entrepreneur who founded British West Indian Airways and Aerovias Brasil. Earlier in his career, he had also established Transportes Aereos del Continente Americano (TACA Airlines).
After graduating from Indiana's Valparaiso University, he joined in the World War I effort as a pilot with the British Royal Flying Corps.
He spent several months in a World War I prisoner-of-war camp after his plane was shot down by German troops.
He grew up in Wellington, New Zealand. After living in the United States for a time, he settled in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
He and Gabriel Voisin were both World War I-era aviation pioneers.
