Canadian recording artist and songwriter who won the Juno Award for Female Vocalist of the Year in consecutive years between 1985 and 1987. Her cover of Percy Sledge 's "When a Man Loves a Woman" became her most successful song while "Everytime I See Your Picture" became her signature song.
She started off by performing in a group called Luba before making the name her own as a solo artist.
Her music was featured on Canadian Idol. She was named Female Entertainer of the Year by the Black Music Association.
She was born Lubomyra Kowalchyk in Montreal, Quebec to Ukrainian immigrant parents.
She became the third Canadian in music history to receive three or more Juno Awards for Female Vocalist of the Year, joining Celine Dion and Anne Murray .
