American football quarterback known for spending most of his career as a backup to players like Matt Ryan , David Garrard , and Drew Brees . He was a fourth-round draft pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2004.

He was a four-year starter at Louisiana Tech where he threw for 12,666 yards, averaging nearly 300 per game.

In September of 2015, his status as a career backup long-since established, he starred in a Verizon commercial touting the quality of the company's backup generators. Later that month, he was thrust into a starting role when Drew Brees was injured.

He has five children with his wife Katy. His older brothers both played quarterback. Randy was at Texas A&M in the late 1990s and Josh was a third round NFL draft pick in 2002.

He won his first NFL game in 2007 after being a last-minute replacement for Buccaneers' starting quarterback Jeff Garcia .
