ABOUT MAJOK MACHAR DENG

South Sudanese-Australian professional basketball power forward for the Cairns Taipans of the National Basketball League (NBL) of Australasia. He attended college in the United States, playing two seasons of Division I college basketball for the University of Louisiana at Monroe Warhawks. He began his NBL career with the Adelaide 36ers in 2016.

He began playing basketball at age 16, and began playing with the Forestville Eagles' Central ABL team.

He was selected to play for South Sudan in the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers in 2022. He officially became an Australian citizen in May 2021, after 15 years of living in the country. In 2018, he left the Forestville Eagles to pursue and prepare for NBA camps, only to later join the team.

He was born in Bor, Sudan and spent his early childhood there before moving to Australia in 2006 with his mother and sister. He and his wife Nyre have a son and a daughter.

He plays alongside Shannon Scott for the Cairns Taipans.
