ABOUT MARINO TARTAGLIA
Painter and art teacher who received the Vladimir Nazor Award for lifetime achievement in 1964. He was influenced by Paul Cézanne and the post-Impressionists early on, but his later work showed an abstract and figurative influence.
He fled to Italy right before the start of World War I, fearing persecution for his political beliefs. While in Italy, he studied at the Instituto Superiore di Belle Arti in Rome.
He was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts, Zagreb, and he also held membership in the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
His family was residing in Zagreb, Croatia, when he was born.
He worked for a time as an assistant to fellow artist Ivan Mestrovic .
