ABOUT MARK SHIELDS
Political columnist and television commentator known for his work on Inside Washington and the PBS NewsHour. For nearly two decades, he moderated Capital Gang on CNN. He authored a book titled On the Campaign Trail about the Presidential campaign of 1984.
He studied philosophy at the University of Notre Dame and later taught at Georgetown University and the University of Pennsylvania.
He penned a 1980s memoir entitled On the Campaign Trail. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1960 to 1962.
With his wife, attorney Anne Hudson Shields, he had a daughter named Amy.
Fellow journalist David Brooks was Shields' political debate partner on the PBS NewsHour.
