She helped the establishment of a local chapter of a labor union for newspaper journalists called the Newspaper Guild.
She was the child of Madison and Amy Wood Jackson. She married Cecil Cooke.
She was put in charge of a column in a NAACP magazine by W.E.B. DuBois after being offered a job as his assistant.
