ABOUT MARYA MANNES
Author, editor, and American cultural critic whose work, Subverse, was published in 1959; she edited Vogue Magazine and wrote numerous pieces for The New Yorker as well.
Her maternal grandfather was a conductor and her uncles were as well, thus her qualification and exposure to culture and music.
She hosted a television program called I Speak For Myself in the late 1950s.
She was married three times and was survived by one child after her 1990 death in San Francisco.
Her brother, Leopold Mannes , was a well-known musician, and her parents established New York's Mannes College of Music.
