ABOUT MATT ADNATE
Australian painter and street artist known for his work portraying Indigenous people, for his street murals and portraits, and for painting the tallest mural in the Southern Hemisphere in 2018. He has garnered overĀ 90,000 followers on hisĀ adnate Instagram page, where he posts examples of his work.
He became interested in art from a very young age and began his first foray into street art by drawing street tags all over his bed. He taught himself art and began working almost immediately upon graduating from school.
He was heavily inspired by Renaissance artists such as Caravaggio , especially his signature chiaroscuro technique. He enjoys graffiti, clothes, music, and skateboarding which all fit into the street aesthetic.
He was born in Monstrose, Victoria, Australia. He has a child who was born in 2018.
His painting of soccer player Adam Goodes was a finalist in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize in 2016
