An American fiction writer and college professor, he is known for such novels as The Dante Club, The Poe Shadow and The Last Dickens. His popular novels were published in nearly fifty countries.
After studying at Harvard University and Yale Law School, he taught at both Emerson College and Harvard.
His historical novel, The Poe Shadow, became a New York Times bestselling book.
He grew up as an only child in New York City.
His novel, The Last Dickens, takes place after the death of author Charles Dickens .
