ABOUT MATTHEW RICHARDS

British swimmer known for his performance in 100 and 200 meter freestyle events. He won the gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics for the 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay. He also won the gold medal for the 200 meter freestyle at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships.

He began swimming when he was five years old. He also played rugby and tae kwon do before focusing fully on swimming. He attended the Bishop Perowne Church of England College.

In 2022 he became a Member of the Order of the British Empire for his swimming accomplishments. He has accumulated over 80,000 followers on his m4ttrichards Instagram account.

His parents' names are  Amanda and Simon Richards. He proposed to fellow swimmer Emily Large in August 2022.

His teammates at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics included Duncan Scott and James Guy .
