ABOUT MATTHEW WARD

Regarded as one of the founders of "Jesus music" (a genre that was later re-branded as contemporary Christian music), this vocalist is most famous for his work with the California-based vocal group 2nd Chapter of Acts. He also recorded several solo albums, including Toward Eternity and Fade to White.

His first single, "Jesus Is," was recorded when he was just thirteen years old.

After surviving a bout of cancer, he published a memoir titled My 2nd Chapter: The Matthew Ward Story and pursued a second career as a nurse's assistant.

He formed 2nd Chapter of Acts in 1973 with his sisters Nellie Ward Greisen and Annie Ward Herring. The siblings lost their mother, Elizabeth Ward, to brain cancer in 1968 and their father, Walter Ward, to leukemia in 1970.

Early in their musical careers, he and his sisters were discovered by Pat Boone , who secured them a recording contract with MGM.
