ABOUT MAURICE HOPE

Held the title of World Boxing Council Light Middleweight boxing champion from 1979 until 1981 and qualified to represent his country at the 1972 Summer Olympic Games in Munich.

He competed in his first professional bout on June 18, 1973, defeating John Smith. He wound up winning ten of his first 11 fights.

He won several regional titles through his career and had a chance to compete for a world title against Eckhard Dagge, but the fight ended in a draw.

He was born in St. John's, Antigua, England.

He lost his Jr. Middleweight title to Wilfred Benitez .
