ABOUT MAXWELL STRUTHERS BURT

A turn-of-the-century American novelist, poet, and short-story writer, he is best known for In The High Hills (poems) and The Interpreter’s House (novel). His other works include The Mullah of Miasmia (play) and They Could Not Sleep (short story collection).

After graduating from Princeton University, he moved to Wyoming, where he established and operated two ranches.

He was involved in the founding of the Grand Teton National Park.

He married novelist Katherine Newlin Burt. The couple's son, Nathaniel, also became an author.

He and Gordon Merrick both attended Princeton University.
