ABOUT MELVYN DOUGLAS
1930s leading man turned dramatic actor who appeared in Being There in 1979 and Hud in 1963. As a Broadway actor, he appeared in Inherit the Wind, Spofford, and Two Blind Mice.
He failed to graduate from high school.
He won an Academy Award for Best Actor in 1980 and another one for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in 1963.
He had two wives, Rosalind Hightower and Helen Gahagan .
He played the male lead opposite Greta Garbo in the 1939 film, Ninotchka.
