ABOUT MICHAEL ENDE

A twentieth-century German author of children's and fantasy fiction, he is best known for The Neverending Story, Momo and Jim Button, and Luke the Engine Driver. His popular works were translated into nearly fifty languages.

He was drafted into the German Army, but became a deserter because of his anti-Nazi sentiments.

His original literary goal was to become a playwright.

He was the only child of surrealist painter Edgar Ende, and he grew up in a Munich community of artists.

He was a contemporary of American children's author Sid Fleischman .
