Michael McFaul
ABOUT MICHAEL MCFAUL
American scholar and professor of political science who was the United States Ambassador to Russia from 2012-14. He was previously the Special Assistant to the President at the U.S. National Security Council during the administration of Barack Obama .
He received his bachelor's degree in international relations and Slavic languages from Stanford University in 1986.
He's the author of numerous books including 2018's From Cold War to Hot Peace: An American Ambassador in Putin's Russia.
He married his wife Donna Norton in 1993. They have two sons named Cole and Luke. His father was a musician and music teacher.
He once advised President George W. Bush on how to deal with Vladimir Putin .
