Remembered best for his comedic role as Arthur Rudge in the early 1970s ITV series On the Buses, this British actor also guest starred in episodes of The Good Life, Man About the House, and One Foot in the Grave.

Before appearing in his first television role -- as a soldier in the comedy series Roll-on Bloomin' Death -- he worked in London as a bank teller.

He supported numerous charities, including the Catholic Stage Guild and the Grand Order of Water Rats.

His marriage to actress Hal Dyer resulted in children named Sarah and Ben.

He appeared in two Blake Edwards -directed films: Victor/Victoria and The Pink Panther Strikes Again.
