Dramatic actor best known for playing the shotgun-bearing street thug Omar Little on HBO's The Wire . He also played Chalky White on Boardwalk Empire and Bobby McCray in the mini-series When They See Us . He appeared in such films as 12 Years a Slave , The Road, Kill the Messenger, Inherent Vice and Ghostbusters .
He worked as a dancer, appearing in music videos and on tours with Madonna and George Michael .
He made his first acting appearance as the on-screen brother of Tupac Shakur in the 1996 film Bullet.
He was born to an African-American father and a Bahamian mother. He had a son named Elijah.
On The Wire, his character Omar frequently clashed with Idris Elba 's Stringer Bell.
