Late professional wrestler remembered for being a legendary heel on the English wrestling circuit. He was a two-time British Welterweight Champion and a four-time European Middleweight Champion.

He served in the Royal Air Force during World War II.

Following his retirement, he became the owner of the Surrey pub The Royal Hotel.

His birth name was William George Matthews.

He was one of the primary inspirations for artist Peter Blake 's series of wrestler paintings.
