Dictator, aristocrat, and military officer who served as Prime Minister of Spain from 1923 to 1930 during Spain's Restoration era. His slogan was "Country, Religion, Monarchy." He served during the reign of  Alfonso XIII.

He studied history and engineering before deciding upon a military career. He won admission to the newly created General Military Academy in Toledo and graduated in 1884.

The decline of the economy contributed to his forced resignation in 1930.
