ABOUT MIKE KELLEY
Multimedia artist who often worked with found objects, video, drawings, and collage. He collaborated with such artists as Paul McCarthy , Tony Oursler, and John Miller.
He was a member of two Detroit-based bands: Iggy and the Stooges and Destroy All Monsters. Later, he moved to California to study art.
His piece, "Deodorized Central Mass with Satellites," sold for $2.7 million in 2007.
He grew up in a working class Catholic family in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan. His father headed up the maintenance department within the public school system, and his mother was employed by the Ford Motor Company as a cook in the executive dining room.
He studied with John Baldessari at the California Institute of the Arts.
