Former head coach of the NFL's San Diego Chargers and the CFL's Winnipeg Blue Bombers; named head coach of the Oregon State Beavers in 2003.
He attended the University of Alabama, where he played for the legendary Paul "Bear" Bryant.
He was named Pac-10 Coach of the Year in 2008.
He married Dee Riley and he has a son named Matthew and a daughter named Kate. His father was a high school football coach.
He once coached Donnie Edwards .
