ABOUT MILDRED D. TAYLOR
Newbery Medal-winning author whose works focus on African-American life in the South. She is best known for her 1976 novel, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.
She published her first novella, Song of the Trees, in 1975. The work received a New York Times Outstanding Book of the Year citation.
Her 1981 work, Let the Circle Be Unbroken, received a Coretta Scott King Award and an American Book Award nomination.
She was born in Jackson, Mississippi and spent the majority of her childhood in Toledo, Ohio. She later settled in Colorado with her daughter.
She and Karen Hesse are both Newbery Medal winners.
