She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Michigan.
Her parents divorced when she was seven and for a time she lived in Italy, where she became fluent in Italian.
She married Justin Hagan, whom she had a child with in 2009.
She co-starred with Evan Rachel Wood and Guy Pierce in the HBO miniseries, Mildred Pierce.
