ABOUT MISTY COPELAND

Ballet dancer who became the first African-American soloist in the history of the American Ballet Theatre, eventually becoming the first African-American woman to serve as the company's principal dancer.

She studied at the San Francisco Ballet School after studying gymnastics and dance as a child.

She was a 1998 winner of the LA Music Center Spotlight Award, given to South California's best dancer.

She has three older siblings: Erica, Douglas, and Christopher. She also has a younger half sister named Lindsey and a younger half brother named Cameron. Her parents are Sylvia DelaCerna and Doug Copeland. She married her longterm boyfriend Olu Evans in 2016. They had a son named Jackson in 2022.

She performed in The Chocolate Nutcracker, which was narrated by Debbie Allen .
