He was a stuntman for D.W. Griffith 's The Birth of a Nation.

He starred in Griffith's Orphans of the Storm, and appeared opposite Clara Bow , Gloria Swanson , and Norma Shearer .

His father was a Civil War veteran and a scout for frontiersman Buffalo Bill Cody .

He was a lifelong friend of Cecil B. DeMille and appeared in his films.
