Najma Akhtar
ABOUT NAJMA AKHTAR
1984 winner of the Birmingham Asian Song Contest whose music combines jazz, Indian ghazal and bhajans. She put out eight albums between 1988 and 2009.
She attended Aston University, Birmingham to study chemical engineering. She produced her first album in 1987.
She has worked with several musicians through her career, including saxophonists Stan Harrison and Michael J. Parlett.
She is of Asian descent, but was born in England.
She worked with Jimmy Page and Robert Plant on the track "The Battle of Evermore."
