ABOUT NAOMI SHIHAB NYE

Palestinian-American poet and author known for Different Ways to Pray, Yellow Glove, Hugging the Jukebox, and other poetry collections. Her literary honors include the Paterson Poetry Prize and numerous Pushcart Prizes.

She studied at Trinity University and made San Antonio, Texas her home. She published Different Ways to Pray, her debut poetry collection, in 1980.

She received the 2013 Neustadt Prize for Children’s Literature.

She married Michael Nye and she has a son named Madison. She was born into a family of Swiss, German, and Palestinian heritage, and her life and work were impacted greatly by a 1966 visit with her Palestinian grandmother.

Her poetic style has been compared to that of Wallace Stevens .
