Influential politician and lobbyist who was the 33rd Governor of Oregon from 1987 to 1991. His legacy, however, was damaged by revelation that he had an affair with a minor.
He participated in voter registration in Mississippi's 1964 Freedom Summer civil rights campaign.
He was the first Jewish governor of Oregon and famously helped the state emerge from an eight year recession.
He has two children and has been married twice.
