Bestselling English children's author whose popular works include the Percy the Park Keeper books, Thud!, and Just Like Jasper.
After graduating from London's Royal Liberty School, he worked for several typographical and design companies.
He collaborated with childhood friend Mick Inkpen on several illustrated children's books.
He and his son, Ben, co-founded a BBC television children's programming production company called Snapper Productions.
He and fellow Englishman Michael Morpurgo both became known for their popular works of children's literature.
