Creator of a line of elegant suits and stylish dresses worn both on Broadway and on the silver screen.
His first experience in design was with Paramount Pictures, where he designed dresses for Gloria Swanson and other silent film era stars.
He also worked at creating costumes for Broadway productions of the Ziegfeld Follies and the Cotton Club.
He was born in Noblesville, Indiana.
His work with the pioneering fashion designer Hattie Carnegie paved the way for future boutique designers like Ralph Lauren .
