He has been active in the film industry for over a decade, with roles in Simon Burch, Pieces of April, and Frost/Nixon. He also starred in The Big C with Laura Linney . In 2015 he began playing Dr. Daniel Charles in the NBC medical drama Chicago Med . He has appeared in more than 150 episodes of the popular TV series.

While at Tufts University, he met Hank Azaria , whom he became friends with.

He played a CIA Agent in charge of Division X who worked with the X Men in the blockbuster film X Men: First Class. He had a voiceover role in the absurdist film I'm Thinking of Ending Things.

He has three children and married Camilla Campbell.
