American singer, songwriter, poet, actor, and artist who supplied lead vocals for Otep, a metal band. She has released songs like "Menocide," which angered Men's Rights Advocates.

She formed her self-named band, Otep, in Los Angeles in 2000.

She spoke at the Democratic National Convention in 2008.

She was born in Austin, Texas and was open about her lesbianism from the early days of her career.

She was influenced by the music of Kurt Cobain's band, Nirvana.
