His prototype and plans were destroyed by a fire. He came out with Kleen Maid Sliced Bread, which was produced by his slicing machine.
His family was residing in Davenport, Iowa, when he was born. He had two children.
His invention grew in popularity despite Franklin D. Roosevelt 's short-lived 1943 ban on sliced bread, enacted because sliced bread required more valuable material for packaging.
