ABOUT PAT FRANK
The author of the classic, post-apocalyptic novel, Alas, Babylon (1959), he is also known for works such as Hold Back the Night (1951), Forbidden Area (1956), and Mr. Adam (1946).
He wrote for the Jacksonville Journal and, later, the Miami Herald. He published his first work, Mr. Adam, in 1946.
His bestselling book, Alas, Babylon, tells the story of the Florida survivors of a nuclear war. The work was listed as required reading for high school students during the Cold War era.
He was born in Chicago, Illinois. He lived in Washington and New York before moving to Florida, where he died of pancreatitis at the age of fifty-seven.
George Orwell wrote another Cold War classic book, 1984.
