ABOUT PAUL LE MAT

Vietnam War veteran who played a rugged, gruff character in Lonesome Dove. His role in the 1973 film, American Graffiti , earned him a Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year.

He studied at the Actor's Studio in New York, and the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco.

Despite winning several Golden Globe Awards, he did not receive a single Oscar nomination through more than 30 years of his career.

He had three daughters with Suzanne du Passe.
