ABOUT PEDRO LIRA
South American painter who helped found the Chilean National Museum of Fine Arts. He attempted to bring about an almost Parisian appreciation and focus on culture by exhibiting his paintings.
He trained with landscape artist Antonio Smith while simultaneously studying law at the University of Chile.
He was influenced by the work of artist Eugene Delacroix , the romantic French painter.
He was born into a wealthy family in Chile and was the son of Martina Rencoret Cienfuegos and Jose Calvo Santos Lira.
He and fellow Chilean-born painter, Aurelia Souza , were both active at the end of the Nineteenth Century.
