R&B and soul singer who was known as "The Little Lady with the Big Voice" and also "The Undisputed Queen." She released her first studio LP in 1996 entitled Help Yourself.
She grew up in Opp, Alabama.
Many of her songs were about relationships, though in 2006 she released a gospel album called God Can, And He Will.
In 1988, she married a Compton city commissioner.
As a teenager, she performed with soul singer Ben E. King .
