German American televangelist and self-proclaimed faith healer, who was exposed as a fraud in 1986 by James Randi.
He emigrated from Hamburg, Germany to California when he was a child.
He was the inspiration for a character in the 2012 thriller film Red Lights, starring Robert De Niro .
His wife Elizabeth would feed him information about his audience members through a radio device and he would act on stage as if he had gotten it from God.
He was exposed as a fraud on The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson .
