ABOUT PHILIP GUSTON
New York School painter and printmaker whose work bridged the gap between abstract expressionism and neo-expressionism. His 1972 oil-on-canvas, "Painting, Smoking Eating," exemplified his overall style.
He attended the Otis Art Institute and painted his first mural when he was just eighteen years old.
He taught at the University of Iowa and at Washington University in St. Louis.
He was born in Montreal, Canada, and moved to Woodstock, New York in 1967.
He was a contemporary of Jackson Pollock .
