British author most well known for his historical thrillers starring the character Bernie Gunther.
He attended the University of Birmingham and earned two Master's degrees, in law and philosophy.
His novel If the Dead Rise Not won the RBA International Prize for Crime Writing in 2009.
He married novelist Jane Thynne and they had three children together.
Thriller writer Patricia Cornwell won the RBA International Prize in 2011.
