Guyana-born singer best known for his Gold-selling 1969 single "Take a Letter, Maria". His cover of "(There's) Always Something There to Remind Me" cracked the Top 40 the following year.

He was born on a U.S. Army Air Force base and was raised on a Seminole Indian reservation.

His biggest hit, "Take a Letter, Maria" sold more than two and a half million copies by 1970.

His uncle is legendary soul singer Sam Cooke .

He scored a hit in 1970 with (There's) Always Something There to Remind Me", originally performed by Burt Bacharach .
