ABOUT RADWA ASHOUR
Egyptian novelist who specialized in Black poetics and other Afro-American critical writing. She is best known for having published several novels including Granada, Apparitions, Siraj, and Blue Lorries.
She graduated from Cairo University with her BA in 1967. She then went on to earn her MA from the University in 1972. She earned her Ph.D. in African American Literature in 1975 from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Her first book The Journey was published in 1983.
She won the Constantine Cavafy Prize for literature in 2007.
She was born and raised in El-Manial. She married Palestinian poet Mourid Barghouti in 1970 and together they had a son named Tamim al-Barghouti in 1977.
Tawfiq Alhakim and Naguib Mahfouz are fellow novelists and writers from Egypt.
