Engineer who invented the noise-reduction sound system that bore his name. He founded Dolby Laboratories.

He worked on the prototype of the VCR while studying for his degree at Stanford University.

He was included on the Forbes 400 list of wealthiest people in the world in 2008.

He fathered two sons, Tom and David, with wife Dagmar.

He received an Academy Award for scientific or technical achievements. Jim Henson was a previous recipient of this award.
