American actor remembered for being the first actor ever to play Superman, which he did at New York's World's Fair in 1939. He later went on to appear on popular TV series like I Dream of Jeanie and M*A*S*H.

He served as a member of the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

He once served as the guest host of The Ed Sullivan Show.

He was married to singer and dancer Patricia Dinnell. His mother was a pianist who passed away when he was three years old.

He co-starred with John Wayne in the 1942 drama film Lady for a Night.
